Upon entering the Braedley home in Ontario, you will instantly feel completely at ease and relaxed. It’s not surprising with all the bright and warm hues, different tactile elements, and lots of natural light and natural materials. We guess it’s safe to say that Melissa and her husband are very design-oriented since they did the majority of the renovations themselves. They are always in-sync in a lot of things, especially when it comes to designing their home.

The couple found this VERY dated 1980s home, which they renovated together. It shows off the beauty of the Nordic interior style, mixed with traditional modern pieces. The result? A comfortable and cozy family home. Of course, aside from designing a stylish home, Melissa considered making the space homey, inviting, and renovating the 40-years old home with practicality in mind. She wants it to look warm and welcoming enough so her family and guests will always feel comfortable.

Melissa, a working mom to three young boys, shares that if there is anything they would change it would definitely be the kitchen since it’s not totally functional for her family right now. However, the couple is planning to renovate it in the late spring or early summer. We’re excited to see how their kitchen makeover will turn out, but today, it will be all about her 2,700 square feet Scandinavian home tour. You will love her boys’ bedrooms, we promise!

Tell us something about your home

We live in a VERY dated 1980s home that we’ve had to completely renovate from top to bottom. We’ve been here for 10 years, but we have loved making it our own!

Tip: Always stay true to yourself. It’s the heart of creating a cozy and warm home.

Describe your interior style

A mix of traditional, modern with a Scandinavian flare! 😉

What is your favorite part of your home and why?

Our master bedroom because we finally created a space that’s for us, and we love it! It’s a space we completely updated, and it’s our own little oasis.

What is your least favorite part of your home and why?

Our kitchen. It’s the last room to be redone, and it’s not functional for our family right now. We plan to renovate it in the late spring or early summer if we can!

Where do you get your inspiration from?

Pinterest, IG, Studio McGee, Joanna Gaines, and HGTV.

Dream home design advice/tips you want to share?

Do what YOU love. It’s your home, and you live there, so YOU need to love it! Forget the trends, and do what makes you happy.

Tip: Interior experts would say that Scandinavian is so 2019, but don’t let the trends dictate your decisions. You can stick to whatever interior style that you love, and incorporate accents of the trending décor styles. That way, you can update your home’s look without spending too much.

What are your recommended places to shop?

HomeSense, Target, H&M Home, Article, Structube, and Emily Michelle Home.

Since Melissa and her husband live in the space for 10 years, they learned what their family needed before they started their large renovation project. So, if you’re planning to renovate your home from scratch, don’t make rash decisions. You can also reach out to Melissa’s Instagram for tips and advice!
