Designing a home from scratch can be a challenge, but not for Lauren whose favorite hobby is (you guessed it right) designing their 2,500 square feet home. With the purchase of their first home, together with her partner Ryan, in November 2019, Lauren perfectly captured their individual personalities throughout their home’s style while seamlessly integrated modern and traditional pieces. The result? An organic modern home with loads of beautiful natural light and a place with a lot of character.

Lauren is very hands-on with their home’s interior. By pairing her graphic design skills with her knack for interior decorating, she has been able to create a space that feels undeniably fresh and modern. She has been sharing home decorating ideas, tips, and styles through her Instagram page.

Although Lauren’s home has plenty of modern vibes, she didn’t want everything to be new. Timeless or traditional pieces are an important part of their home, such as thrift elements and vintage furniture and accessories. A welcoming atmosphere with a natural touch through organic colors, materials, shapes, and textures, Lauren’s approachable and warm yet minimal organic modern home perfectly suits their lifestyle. Come and join us as we tour Lauren’s home and get inspired for bringing the style into your own spaces.

Tell us something about your home

I moved to the city I am in now because of my partner, Ryan. It is only about 45 minutes from where I used to live, however, I never imagined myself living out here. Now, I can’t imagine ever moving back! The farm views, the tall trees, and the quiet streets are irreplaceable.

Describe your interior style

This question is always a tricky one! I once heard the term ‘organic modern,’ and I really liked how it resonated with me. My house is a mix of new, old, and modern pieces. Nature is my true inspiration both in color palette and in textures. You will find brand new décor in my house as well as thrifted/DIY elements. It’s truly just a cohesive collection of all the things I love.

Tip: Don’t be afraid to mix up contemporary furniture, minimalist or modern pieces with mid-century designs and traditional pieces to achieve the organic modern look into your home.

What is your favorite part of your home and why?

Our living room windows — they let in so much natural light, which is truly a mood changer. Being that, my living room is also one of my favorite places to hang out — it’s a win-win! It also looks out at the amazing view of a vegetable farm and the sunsets can’t be beaten!

What is your least favorite part of your home and why?

Our home was fully renovated by the previous and was a home built in the 1970s. That being said, the rooms are closets are quite small. The master can fit our bed, nightstands, and a smaller dresser otherwise there is just some space around to walk. The same goes for the guest rooms and other rooms of the house other than the main living space.

Where do you get your inspiration from?

Your page, Amber Interiors, Studio McGee, Halfway Holistic, and Brooke Morales Home.

Dream home design advice/tips you want to share?

In my dream home, I want a way for my master closet to be attached to the laundry room. I’ve seen this in a few homes, and I’m always obsessed over it!

Tip: Embrace earth tones by combining natural and neutrals colors with ceramics, leather, rattan, stone, and warm woods.

What are your recommended places to shop?

I shop at so many different places, it’s hard to choose! I try to balance any big box store shopping with supporting small businesses. I find the items are more unique and exciting!

Good things take time, and Lauren is still in the process of decorating their organic modern home, but that’s not a problem because she’s genuinely enjoying the process!
