Liz admires the beauty of simplicity. She loves simplicity in all aspects of her life, and her home definitely reflects that; the style is simple, modern, and minimalist. The house strikes a balance between modern minimalist and calm-comforting. Along with the simplicity of Liz’s home, the spacious kitchen and natural light are her two favorite elements. Liz’s place has so many cozy spaces that you could easily be happily nested for days.
When it came to decorating their new family home, Liz was all in. The important thing for her was to add character and life to the space by adding ceiling details, crown molding, wainscoting, and built-ins. You can certainly see in her home the lack of clutter, but the space still looks cozy and warm because Liz chose each item carefully with beauty and function in equal importance that will go perfectly in their home.
Liz is passionate about everything home decor, and she shares her home decor inspiration on her Instagram page. Let’s check out more of Liz’s home.
Tell us something about your home
This is our dream home. We custom built our home two years ago. Our house sits on 2 beautiful acres surrounded by protected conservation land.
Describe your interior style
My style is definitely modern/minimalist. Our home is light, bright, and airy.
TIP: Let in the fresh air, as well as more natural light by installing large windows in your home. It will make the space look inviting and warm.
What is your favorite part of your home and why?
My favorite part of our home is the kitchen. It is the heart of the home. We spend a lot of time designing the space to be both welcoming and functional. Since everyone seems to gather in the kitchen, we made sure to include a large island.
TIP: De-clutter countertops and any other visible areas in your home. Remember the minimalist mantra of “less is more” is important when you have a modern interior, so be sure to organize everything and keep trinkets out of sight.
What is your least favorite part of your home and why?
Because our home is a new build, we felt it was lacking character. To combat that, we have added ceiling details, crown molding, wainscoting, and built-ins.
Where do you get your inspiration from?
Instagram, Pinterest, and HGTV design shows.
What are your recommended places to shop?
Home Societe (Toronto), Elite, Homesense, and Urban Barn.
Dream home design advice/tips you want to share?
Always choose what YOU love. if you genuinely love it, it will never go out of style. Be careful following trends, as they seem to come and go quickly.
Liz proved that you don’t need as much ‘stuff’ to create a modern yet cozy and warm home. Focus on how you wanted the space to feel and function. Lastly, don’t do anything because it’s trendy! Your home’s interior has to go with your personality.
