Mansa is the writer of the blog This is Simplicite where she shares decor ideas, recipes, and travel diaries. Her main mission is to inspire others to create and live in a home they cherish. I can describe Mansa as a woman who knows what she wants, and her Ohio home perfectly shows that. It’s a balance of coziness and sophistication.

Mansa designed their home to be a comfortable space for her family and friends in the winter and an airy spot in the summer where you can bask under the sun in the living room. It’s a place where you can physically feel yourself relax as soon as you enter the door. The large, bright windows allow a ton of light to flow through their two-story home naturally.

Modern minimalist with pops of color throughout, each detail of Mansa’s home has been thoughtfully considered, which made the entire space look bright, cozy, elegant, and serene. Her design advice is that great design takes time. She believes every homeowner can design their own home that speaks their personality. Also, patience plays an important part in designing a beautiful home.

Let’s check out more of Mansa’s modern minimalist home tour.

Tell us something about your home

My husband and I moved to Cincinnati as a career move and decided to take a chance and build our first home in the city. During the building process, we learned a lot about what worked for our lifestyle and what changes we would like to make.

We are now in the process of upgrading our builder-grade home to the retreat we always imagined. This certainly involves a lot of DIY, sweat, and tears, but we just love the process of transforming our current home into our dream home.

Tip: When moving into a new home, don’t rush to design the entire space. We suggest that you live in the empty space for a few weeks before you do anything or buy anything. This will help you plan and visualize what type of furniture you need to buy or the interior style for your place, like Mansa’s modern minimalist home.

Describe your interior style

Our home is crisp, modern, and minimalist with pops of color throughout. We love to play with accent walls, trim work, wallpaper, and accessories to add character while keeping in line with the modern flair of our home (all while staying within budget!).

Tip: Pull off a chic and cozy modern minimalist home by adding a personal touch like creating a gallery wall of your interesting paintings or favorite photos that takes you back to a happy place.

What is your favorite part of your home and why?

Our modern two-story great room is the heart of our home, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. We recently made it over by adding wallpaper, customized shelves, and a great accent wall. It’s where we spend most of our evenings and weekends, and it’s where we gather with friends and family.

What is your least favorite part of your home and why?

Our laundry room is the one space we would love to change. It’s not as functional as we hoped, and it’s often filled with our least favorite thing (laundry!). It’s certainly on our list of things to upgrade in our home.

Where do you get your inspiration from?

We draw a lot of my inspiration from DIYers on Pinterest and Instagram. Angela Rose HomeRemington Avenue, and Philip Or Flop all share great ideas on home projects that can help customize any home!

We also love following along the featured designers who participate in the One Room Challenge each season – they makeover incredible spaces!

Dream home design advice/tips you want to share?

The biggest lesson we have learned is that great design takes time. It’s important to be patient when designing and curating a home that speaks to you and that you will love for many years to come. Patience really is a virtue!

What are your recommended places to shop?

I love modern home decor shops including West ElmCB2, and Crate & Barrel. I also love shopping for unique and one-of-a-kind decor items on Etsy!

Follow your own instincts when designing the home of your dreams. Don’t rush the process. Wait until you find the perfect furnishings for each room. Plus, if you have a modern minimalist home, just like Mansa, it’s easy to layer and change decor and textiles to mix it up. Add some colors, but remember, a bright and simple home feels timeless and focused.
